Lauren Barris, LCSW-C
Lauren graduated from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor with Bachelor of Arts degrees in Psychology and Spanish, and later with her Masters degree in Clinical Social Work. Lauren works with adults and older adolescents (individual and group setting), and is intensively trained in the evidence-based practices of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and DBT-Prolonged Exposure (DBT-PE), the leading treatment for PTSD for high-risk, suicidal, and self-harming individuals. She draws on DBT, Mindfulness Based Practice, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to meet the needs of her individual clients, specializing in Borderline Personality Disorder, mood dysregulation disorders, chronic suicidality, self-harm, PTSD, depression, anxiety, impulsivity, and relationship difficulties. Lauren has been trained specifically to work with survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence, and takes a validating, genuine, and empowerment-based approach in her work with all clients.
Lauren also has experience in medical social work for chronic illness, drawing on both her former experience as a medical social worker at the University of Michigan Hospital, as well as her current part-time role as the Mental Health Coordinator for the Johns Hopkins Cystic Fibrosis Center.
